    Fun video. Not everyone who learns to play is taught theory properly, and once you can read music then you can get away with knowing very little theory at all. Modern compositional software is so good that you hardly even need to know theory to even write music (once again, if you can read it). I think one thing worth emphasizing is that beginners shouldn't be scared of the black keys...Sure, it's easier when you're in your first few weeks and just trying to remember ABCDEFGA, but once you're at the point of trying to play songs, transposing everything to (or searching for scores transposed to) C Major or A Minor is counterproductive. You play the white keys differently when you have black ones in the song and it's good to get used to that as soon as possible, and it's actually easier to play more complex stuff when there are more black keys. F Minor is delightful for arpeggios, it has 4 flat notes in the key and the white notes are the 1-5-7 so chances are that you're playing black keys 3/4 of the time. I shudder to think what songs in that key would be like to play if you transposed them to A Minor...

    Appreciate your free info but could you do a video on the inversions of the five main jazz chords and how to quickly move from one to another as if playing a tune as that is the killer for me. Thanks.

    As an adult beginner who's listened to SOOO many songs over the decades, not being to replicate songs as quickly as I enjoy listening made me lose tons of motivation. What's helped me is taking the approach a young child would take as a student. Patterns more so than music.

    I am a very elderly lady who love to play at least a keyboard but never had a chance to play music but simply love music. I started learning to play the keyboard to keep my brain working. I watched many videos which taught how to play C major. But you explained it in such a way I understood and I watch your video many times once a day. Thank you for making my lifelong dream work. I now live in Australia.

    I’m 74 and I’ve played bass and guitar all my life. Because I’m getting tremors in my hands I decided to get a keyboard. I want to learn to read music too. I have been studying music theory and the keyboard helps me visualize what I’ve learned. Do you have suggestions for old beginners?

    Ah. I came to this video because I was trying to figure out the sharp chords specifically. I was questioning whether it was really optimal to slot your finger higher up in-between two sharps. It seemed much less intuitive than A Minor or C Major, for example. I suppose I have my answer now.

  • @caravaggio-wf7ox
    @caravaggio-wf7ox 9 дней назад

    what if the fingers you play the examples get some numbers, like 1-5, meaning when played with the RH it would be thumb and pinky, because that is something i, in particular can easily implement/understand or convert, or the notes played, just my 3 cents 😇

    sounds great so far, but what about reducing the speed of the speach aka explanations a bit, firstly , to make it easier for beginners and secondly for those who are not native speakers, thanks a lot

    You know when I tune out, on these types of “easy teaching” videos? It’s during the “intro”, where the teacher starts to talk, explaining WHAT they will show you, how they will show you, a HUGE, LENGTHY explanation using ALL the possible technical terms available to master musicians. I can hear notes and chords in my head. I can hear the next chord coming, but this constant technical talking about “simple theory” just drowns my creative thoughts, and I’m back in grade 9 advanced math. Does NOBODY, know how to just teach music? So many people can just learn it without teaching. Many can hear it intuitively. But it seems that once you go through the technical teaching, that person cannot just get on with it. There has GOT to be an easier to understand method. It almost feels elitist to learn all the old terms. How can a dirt poor farm hand from the 19th century, take a box and strings and become a world renown guitarist and brilliant recording artist, simply by listening and doing? No technical jargon. There is a better way somewhere. Every video today begins with “what I’ll show you in this video….” Ughhhh….I’m out.
